Occult Experiment: Aleister Crowley and Demonic Familiar
I played Aleister Crowley with Rasputin, Demonic Familiar and Terror Demon (with Cutting Through Space-Time). My opponent's force consisted of a Demon Bunny, Demonic Familiar, a couple of Matron Mothers and a couple of Muttering Igors. He put forth a valiant effort to use his plot twists to prevent me from getting victims, but ultimately Crowley got the two he needed to find success in the late game. Terror Demon managed to get in a good 5-damage slash on the Bunny, taking it out before it could hit anything for big damage. Later in the game, when Crowley copied the Terror Demon's slash with his Cabal Power, he didn't fare quite so well. He rolled a 3, which was only 1 more than his printed damage value at the time. Aside from the roaming Bunny, which I assume he meant to be his main attacker, he was up to his normal routine of setting up a turtle formation in a corner of one of the rooms to protect his Familiar. He knew this way I would eventually have to go on the offensive and come to him, at which point he could start popping off shots with Venom and giving the action tokens to the Familiar, and if I ever got close he could use Agony whether it was on its dial or not. What he didn't count on was that toward the end I would use Voodoo Tome to click his Familiar out of Stored Spell and click Crowley into Mind Control. I figured that since none of his figures had Stamina, Impale was useless. Unfortunately, I played the card a turn too soon, when I had 2 action tokens on Crowley. He saw what I was doing and immediately rushed a Matron Mother over to say hello, and with a couple of good rolls he made short work of The Beast. By that point the Terror Demon was dead (never having made a wormhole token due to his low attack value) and so was my Familiar, who wasn't very much help because I had my figures pretty far spread out. I kept him next to Rasputin until someone shot him for 2 clicks, after which I rushed him in to tie up one of his dudes for a turn and die a 25 point death. Anyway, with Crowley out, it was up to Rasputin, whose Vampiric kept him alive for several extra turns but was ultimately no match for 2 Muttering Igors and a Matron Mother that could pass off action tokens to the Familiar, especially with that damn Maniac. I was defeated.
Analysis: Demonic Familiar might be a bit overpowered when played the way he plays it, but not quite so great for aggro range teams. Crowley is nothing short of a badass, but with no built-in defensive powers he seems fair at 115 points.
